Pulling a rigger or dogman to Luddenham or Bringelly means 50–70 minutes each way. Many won't accept unless the duration or project warrants the trip.
Welders with tools are in active deficit nationally.
The compounding factor: trade apprenticeship uptake dropped over 7% between 2024 and 2025. The pipeline for ticketed trades is shrinking exactly as demand rises.
Practical rule: Aerotropolis site needs a dogman next Tuesday? Book by Friday. Don't ring at 7am Tuesday.

Future Sourcing Outlook — Why It Gets Harder
The Western Sydney pool is large. It's also being absorbed faster than it grows.
The drivers
- Aerotropolis (Bradfield City precinct) — enterprise-zoned warehouses, distribution centres and freight hubs going vertical across Luddenham Road, Mersey Road, Kemps Creek. Private investment proposals have run into the tens of billions. Peak workforce demand runs through the late 2020s — public estimates put it at 50,000+ workers at the precinct's peak, with broader Aerotropolis jobs forecast above 100,000.
- Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy-Bird Walton) — major construction done, fit-out runs through late 2026. Shopfitters, electricians, plasterers and labourers still required across Luddenham and Badgerys Creek.
